Baker Hughes: US rig count falls 1 unit to 930

The US drilling rig count fell by 1 unit gain to 930 rigs working during the week ended Dec. 15, data from Baker Hughes indicate. This total is up 293 units from a year ago.  

The US drilling rig count fell by 1 unit gain to 930 rigs working during the week ended Dec. 15, data from Baker Hughes indicate. This total is up 293 units from a year ago.

Offshore this week fell by 1 unit to 19 rigs working. In the Gulf of Mexico, 19 rigs were drilling, 1 fewer than a week ago. The 909 total rigs drilling on land and the 2 total rigs drilling in inland waters were unchanged from last week.

Rigs targeting oil fell 4 units to reach 747. A year ago this week, 510 rigs were drilling for oil. Those rigs targeting gas this week reached 183 units, up 3. This time a year ago, 126 rigs were drilling for gas.

Among the major oil and gas-producing states, Texas and New Mexico each fell by 2 units this week with respective totals of 457 and 71. Louisiana reached 62 units, down 1 rig from a week ago.

Nine states’ rig counts were unchanged this week, namely Oklahoma, 121; Colorado, 33; Ohio, 26; California, 14; West Virginia, 13; Utah, 12; Alaska, 5; Arkansas, 0; and Kansas, 0.

North Dakota, at 47, and Wyoming, at 26, each gained a unit. Pennsylvania, up 3 units from last week, reached 36 rigs.

Canada gained 19 units to 238 rigs from a week ago. A year ago this week, there were 234 total rigs drilling. Oil-directed rigs rose 22 units this week to 134, while those targeting gas decreased 3 units to 104.
