Woodside Petroleum Ltd., Perth, has made its third natural gas discovery offshore Myanmar.

Woodside Petroleum Ltd., Perth, has made its third natural gas discovery offshore Myanmar.

The company reported that its Pyi Thit-1 wildcat well, drilled on Block A-6 in the southern Rakhine basin, intersected a 65-m thick gross gas column. Net gas pay is about 36 m within the primary target reservoir.

The well, spudded in mid-June, was drilled to a total depth of 4,570 m. Wireline logging confirmed the presence of the gas column via pressure measurements. Gas samples also were obtained.

This was followed by a drill stem test across a 29-m interval, which flowed at 50 MMcfd through a 44/64-in. choke over a 44-hr test. The company reported the result has strong reservoir pressure support.

Phy Thit is Woodside’s third find in the region after Shwe Yee Htun-1 on Block A-6 in January 2016 and Thalin-1A on Block AD-7 in February 2016.

Woodside holds 40% in Block A6 and is operator of the Pyi Thit well. MPRL E&P Pte. Ltd. has 20% interest and is joint operator with Woodside in the overall block. Total E&P Myanmar holds the remaining 40% interest in A-6.
