NPD approves OMV’s latest plans for Wisting appraisal drilling in Barents Sea

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate approved OMV (Norge) AS’s plans for appraisal drilling of its Wisting field oil discovery in the Barents Sea about 160 miles offshore northern Norway.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate approved OMV (Norge) AS’s plans for appraisal drilling of its Wisting field oil discovery in the Barents Sea about 160 miles offshore northern Norway.

OMV is the operator with 25%. Partners are Statoil 35%, Idemitsu Petroleum Norge AS 20%, and Petoro AS 20%. Wisting area potential has been estimated at 200-500 million boe. (OGJ Online, Apr. 6, 2016).

The semisubmersible Island Innovator owned by Island Drilling Co. AS will drill well 7324/8-3, the sixth on Production License 537, which was awarded in 2009. The area comprises parts of Blocks 7324-7 and 7324-8.
