EIA: US crude inventory drops nearly 9 million bbl

US commercial crude oil inventories, excluding the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, decreased by 8.9 million bbl for the week ended Aug. 11 compared with the previous week, the Energy Information Administration said in its weekly oil and products inventory report.

At 466.5 million bbl, US crude inventories are in the upper half of the average range for this time of year, EIA said in the Weekly Petroleum Status Report (OGJ Online, Aug. 9, 2017).

Total motor gasoline inventories remained unchanged last week and are near the upper limit of the average range. Finished gasoline inventories decreased while blending components inventories increased last week.

Distillate fuel inventories increased by 700,000 bbl for the week ended Aug. 11, which is the upper half of the average range for this time of year. Propane-propylene inventories increased by 1.6 million bbl, putting them in the lower half of the average range.

Refinery inputs averaged 17.6 million b/d for the week ended August 11, which was 9,000 b/d less than the previous week’s average. Refineries operated at 96.1% of capacity last week.

Gasoline production decreased last week, averaging 10 million b/d. Distillate fuel production decreased last week, averaging 5.3 million b/d.

US crude imports averaged 8.1 million b/d, up by 364,000 b/d from the previous week. Over the last 4 weeks, crude oil imports averaged 8 million b/d, which was 4.7% below the same 4-week period last year.

Total motor gasoline imports, including both finished gasoline and gasoline blending components, last week averaged 667,000 b/d. Distillate fuel imports averaged 167,000 b/d.
