Qatar Petroleum reported its intention to raise Qatar’s LNG production to 100 million tonnes/year from 77 million tpy.

The additional volumes will be secured by doubling the size of the gas project in the southern section of North field, which QP reported in April. This will increase the field’s production of natural gas, condensate, and other associated products by 1 million boe/d.

The announcement was made by Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, QP president and chief executive officer. “With the conclusion of further technical studies, we have decided that the best option would be to double the size of the project to 4 bcfd of gas, which constitutes a 20% increase from the current North field production rate, or about 1 million boe/day,” he said.

“Once completed,” Al-Kaabi said, “within 5-7 years from now, this project will raise the production of the state of Qatar to about 6 million boe/d.”
