An appraisal well for the 2014 Alta discovery in the southern Barents Sea has tested at 6,050 b/d.

An appraisal well for the 2014 Alta discovery in the southern Barents Sea has tested at 6,050 b/d (OGJ Online, May 11, 2017).

The 7220/11-4 well in PL 609 encountered a gross hydrocarbon column of 48 m, with 4 m of gas and 44 m of oil in a sequence of Permian-Triassic clastic carbonate sediments.

The production test confirmed good reservoir properties and good lateral continuity within the Permian-Triassic reservoirs, said operator Lundin Norway AS.

The company said pressure data show the same fluid contacts and gradients as observed in previous wells drilled on the Alta discovery, confirming good communication across the large Alta structure.

A geological sidetrack will be drilled 900 m north of the Alta-4 to assist with placement of a horizontal well for an extended well test planned for 2018.

The Alta-4 is 2 km south of the Alta discovery well and 2.5 km north of appraisal well 7220/11-3.

Lundin Norway has 40%, while DEA Norge and Idemitsu Petroleum Norge each have 30%.
