Scotland’s government has contributed £50,000 to a project designed to preserve offshore oil and gas knowledge and experience otherwise lost to industry slumps.
The funds supplement £800,000 from the oil and gas industry, universities, and other sponsors supporting a digital platform under development by the International Center for Oil & the Environment (ICOE).
Paul Warwick, chairman of the ICOE advisory council said the project addresses “a gap in knowledge and experience” resulting from personnel losses during the current and past industry downturns.
Encompassing the Future: Offshore Oil & Gas Operations, Environment Safety and Performance Management, will be launched Aug. 3 at Kings College, University of Aberdeen.
The resource, according to ICOE, “captures the accumulated knowledge and interdisciplinary expertise of the last 40 years of offshore operations to transfer it to the next generation.”
The center is managed by ICOE Research Ltd., Edinburgh.
