The Sri Lanka government is planning what it is calling a “first-ever” seismic acquisition off the country’s east coast, under a joint exploration agreement with France’s Total SA.
About 5,000 km of 2D seismic will be collected, followed by 2D and 3D acquisition programs in the Mannar basin off the west coast, said the Ministry of Petroleum Resources Development.
The seismic data will form the basis of Sri Lanka’s third international licensing round, currently planned for yearend.
WesternGeco’s MV Vespucci will begin the program after completing a project in Malaysia.
The government also plans to acquire airborne gravity-magnetic data in the Mannar and Cauvery basins over the next few months (OGJ Online, Feb. 7, 2017).
