New Zealand Refining Co. Ltd. (Refining NZ) has let a contract to WorleyParsons Ltd. to provide engineering, procurement, shutdown, and construction management (EPCM) services for its 107,000-b/d refinery at Northland, in Marsden Point, New Zealand, near Whangarei.

Under the 5-year framework agreement, WorleyParsons will deliver EPCM services for unspecified works as part of a series of strategic alliances Refining NZ has entered with established experts in areas that are not related to the refinery’s core business, the companies said.

Without identifying the specific projects to be executed under the contract, Sjoerd Post, chief executive officer of Refining NZ, said the agreement will enable flexible access to specialist engineering services aimed at contributing to the refinery’s continued safe and reliable operation.

The value of the call-off arrangement will be dependent on the amount of EPCM work the Marsden Point refinery requires under the contract’s duration, WorleyParsons said.

The service company said any services it provides for the refinery will be led and executed from WorleyParsons’ on-site location at Marsden Point, which will be supported by its offices in Auckland, New Plymouth, and specialist services at other global locations.

Alongside a proposed project to accommodate deliveries of larger crude cargoes into Marsden Point, Refining NZ also recently committed to carrying out a series of energy and efficiency upgrades designed to further reduce the refinery’s carbon footprint (OGJ Online, Mar. 23, 2017; Oct. 25, 2016).
