Karoon lets contract for Echidna field development off Brazil

Karoon Petroleo & Gas, a Brazilian subsidiary of Karoon Gas Australia Ltd., Melbourne, has let a multiyear contract to Wood Group for the engineering services for full field development of Echidna oil field in the Santos basin offshore Brazil.

Karoon Petroleo & Gas, a Brazilian subsidiary of Karoon Gas Australia Ltd., Melbourne, has let a multiyear contract to Wood Group for the engineering services for full field development of Echidna oil field in the Santos basin offshore Brazil.

The contract will be executed from Wood’s office in Rio de Janeiro.

The work will focus on the technical requirements of a floating production unit and subsea structures plus all bid package evaluations and the execution phase of the field in the Santos basin. The FPU will be moored in 400 m of water.

Karoon has been in Brazil since 2008. The Kangaroo and Bilby light oil discoveries were made in 2013. Echidna was discovered in 2015 (OGJ Online, May 7, 2015).

Further appraisal drilling at Echidna is planned for this year.
