An exploratory well drilled by Statoil Petroleum AS in the Norwegian North Sea was not formation tested, but preliminary calculations indicate recoverable resources of 1-3 million cu m of oil equivalent.

Statoil, operator of Gimle Unit and PL 193, drilled to a structure east of Gimle field, about 7 km northeast of Gullfaks field and 7 km south of Visund Sor field.

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate said the 34/10-55 S was drilled from the Gullfaks C platform to a vertical depth of 3,228 m subsea and a measured depth of 7,811 m. It will be produced from a subsequent development well from the platform. Water depth is 220 m.

The well encountered a total oil and gas column of about 170 m, with 60 m in sandstone with very good reservoir properties in the Statfjord group and 10 m in sandstone with moderate-to-good properties in the Lunde formation.
