TransCanada Corp. has submitted a presidential permit application to the US Department of State for approval of the Keystone XL (KXL) crude oil pipeline.
The move follows the signing earlier this week of executive orders by US President Donald J. Trump aimed at reviving the KXL and Dakota Access projects (OGJ Online, Jan. 24, 2017). The Obama administration in 2015 denied TransCanada Corp. a cross-border permit for KXL after years of delays.
TransCanada applied for US permission to build KXL in 2008. The 1,179-mile, 36-in. OD pipeline would ship crude from Hardisty, Alta., to Steele City, Neb., for delivery onward to the Cushing, Okla., storage hub and Gulf Coast refiners.
