The Western Energy Alliance has named Kathleen Sgamma, who has served as the organization’s vice-president of government and public affairs for several years, as its president. She succeeds Tim Wigley, who has served as the Denver-based independent oil and gas producers’ organization’s president since 2012.
WEA Chairman Darryl Howard, who also is chief operating office at privately held Fuse Energy LLC, Denver, said the promotion recognizes Sgamma’s substantial contribution in building up WEA’s strong advocacy program since joining the organization in March 2006.
“The oil and gas industry is and should be heavily regulated, as states and the federal government have been doing for many decades,” Sgamma said following the Dec. 1 announcement of her appointment. “However, the regulatory barrage has gone far beyond reasonable environmental oversight and has become a means to hinder American producers and drive them off appropriate federal lands.
“[WEA] is gearing up to engage with the new administration, and we will be working to roll back unreasonable regulations as well as to advance positive policies that create jobs and economic opportunity in the West and across the country,” she said.
