BP Trinidad & Tobago LLC (BPTT) has announced that it has begun drilling in its Amherstia natural gas field in the Columbus basin off the Caribbean twin-island nation’s southeast coast.
BPTT said it had contracted the Joe Douglas 240C jack up rig, owned and operated by Rowan Cos., and will drill at least three development wells in Amherstia field.
The company said expected gas output from these three wells is 235 MMscfd of gas.
The Joe Douglas rig previously worked for another operator in Trinidad and was moored in Chaguaramas for 45 days where it underwent maintenance. After the work’s completion, the rig was moved to the offshore location alongside the Amherstia platform.
The rig joins the BPTT rig fleet of the Rowan EXL II, which is currently alongside the Mango platform, and the Diamond Ocean Victory, which is currently completing the Juniper wells.
Amhersia first started production in 1999.
