The Quadrant Energy Ltd.-operated Roc-2 appraisal of the 2015 gas-condensate discovery in the Bedout Sub-basin off Western Australia has confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons in a good-quality reservoir.
The results have been recorded using logging-while-drilling technology through the Caley formation between 4,300 m and 4,400 m well depth.
Quadrant will follow up the data acquisition process with wireline logging, including pressure testing and fluid sampling.
The well has been cored through the section and is currently drilling ahead to a planned total depth of 5,250 m.
A report earlier this year furnished by Perth-based consultants RISC suggested a contingent 3C recoverable resource of as much as 372 bcf of gas and 18 million bbl of condensate. Additional prospective resources of 328 bcf of gas and 16 million bbl of condensate are potentially recoverable.
Quadrant and its joint-venture partner Carnarvon Petroleum, both of Perth, are drilling Roc-2 to see if gas and condensate exists down to the gas-water contact. If successful, the well will be a big step forward in supporting a development hub for gas and liquids that would also open up the province to additional projects.
Roc-2 is 5-6 km east of Roc-1 in permit WA-437-P. It is close to the earlier 2014 Phoenix South discovery, 20 km southwest, which could be tied back to a Roc development.
Discovery well Roc-1 is in 100 m of water about 158 km from Port Hedland on the Pilbara coast. It intersected a 40-m thick gross hydrocarbon column with a net pay of 13 m when drilled in December 2015.
Quadrant has 80% while Carnarvon has 20% interest.
