OMV AG, Vienna, plans to drill 12 wells in the Weinviertel area of Lower Austria in 2017. Lower Austria is in northeastern Austria.
The planned projects involve both exploratory and production drilling for crude oil and natural gas.
OMV said its Austrian oil and gas production in 2015 averaged 32,000 boe/d and “held steady against the previous year.”
The company covers about 10% of domestic demand for crude oil and 15% of gas demand.
OMV said it is able to extract as much as 60% of available crude oil and as much as 90% of available natural gas.
