Guyana’s Ministry of Natural Resources has announced plans to build an onshore oil and gas facility in that country as it attempts to optimize opportunities from the massive ExxonMobil Corp. oil discovery and future petroleum exploration and production.
The ministry said it was working in conjunction with the Ministries of Public Infrastructure and Business and expects the project to be a public-private partnership. It noted that the facility was critical as it tries to develop its oil and gas.
The release stated: “The development of onshore infrastructure is critical to the success of the offshore oil and gas activities, and it is expected that this logistics and supply base will be able to serve the sector as a whole.”
Earlier this year ExxonMobil announced that its Liza-2 well drilled on the 6.6 million acre Stabroek block had encountered more than 190 ft of oil-bearing sandstone reservoirs in Upper Cretaceous formations offshore Guyana (OGJ Online, June 30, 2016).
The well confirmed Liza-1, and ExxonMobil has estimated recoverable reserves as high as 1.4 billion bbl.
The country that shares its borders with Venezuela, Suriname, and Brazil said onshore facilities normally include shipyard, port facilities, oil field waste disposal, oil spill response, electric power infrastructure, support and heliport facilities, platform fabrication support, and numerous other services that are provided in keeping with requests from operators and industry standards.
