DONG Energy has terminated its contract with Maersk Drilling AS for the Maersk Resolve jack up rig after it concluded work at Hejre field in the Danish North Sea.

The original contract was scheduled to end in January 2017. Compensation under the early termination agreement leaves Maersk Drilling financially neutral to the original contract.

Maersk Resolve was built in 2009 and is designed for year-round operation in harsh environments and in as much as 350 ft of water. The rig is high-pressure, high-temperature capable and equipped for managed pressure drilling.

DONG and partner Bayerngas Norge AS earlier this year terminated the engineering, procurement, and construction contract with the Hejre supplier consortium consisting of Technip AS and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd., which had been slated to deliver the Hejre platform (OGJ Online, Mar. 29, 2016).

DONG and Bayerngas at the time cited their lack of confidence “in the consortium’s ability to deliver the platform.” DONG and Bayerngas said they would jointly assess alternative plans for development of Hejre field, and as a result, no date for production startup would be set. The field was originally slated to come on stream in 2017.
