Saudi Arabia Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC) has let a contract to Wood Group PLC, Aberdeen, to provide engineering design services for an unidentified project at subsidiary SABIC UK Petrochemicals Ltd.’s Teesside petrochemicals complex in Wilton, UK.

Wood Group will execute the contract effective immediately out of its Woking, Surrey, UK, offices, the service provider said.

Wood Group disclosed neither a value of the contract nor any additional details regarding its scope of work under the agreement.

Purchased from Huntsman Petrochemicals (UK) Ltd. in 2007 (OGJ Online, Sept. 28, 2006), the Teeside complex produces ethylene from an 865,000 tonne/year naphtha cracker that SABIC plans to modify into a gas cracker based on low-cost ethane feedstock to be imported from the US, according to the company’s web site.

The Wilton manufacturing site also houses a 400,000-tpy low-density polyethylene plant.
