The Sri Lankan government plans to double capacity of the country’s only refinery, Ceylon Petroleum Corp.’s 50,000 b/d facility at Sapugaskanda.
In an interview with Reuters, Petroleum Resources Minister Chandima Weerakkody said the project also would add a hydrocracker.
The refinery, commissioned in 1969, was designed to process Iranian crude.
Weerakkody also told Reuters companies from China, the US, and India have shown interest in building a refinery in port cities Trincomalee and Hambantota.
