Oryx GTL, a joint venture of state-owned Qatar Petroleum 51% and Sasol Ltd. of Johannesburg 49%, has let a contract to a division of SNC-Lavalin Group Inc., Montreal, to provide long-term engineering and support services for its gas-to-liquids (GTL) complex at Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar (OGJ Online, June 7, 2006).

Under the 5-yr contract, SNC-Lavalin’s local entity Qatar Kentz WLL will provide a number of services at the complex, including general engineering, feasibility studies, modelling, drawings, and documentation, SNC-Lavalin said.

The contract comes as part of Oryx GTL’s long-term capital plan to sustain operations at second-generation GTL complex, which converts 330 MMcfd of lean, methane-rich gas from Qatar's North gas into 24,000 b/d of GTL diesel, 9,000 b/d of naphtha, and 1,000 b/d of LPG.

The service company disclosed neither a value of the contract nor any additional details regarding specific projects to be executed as part of the agreement.
