Statoil ASA has awarded a $72-million contract to Rosenberg WorleyParsons AS for fabrication of three bridges and two flare towers for platform construction for the Johan Sverdrup development offshore Norway in the North Sea.

It was the second Johan Sverdrup contract announcement this month. Statoil awarded GE Oil & Gas a contract for surface wellhead and Christmas tree equipment along with a services contract.

Platform construction already is under way at Aibel’s yard in Haugesund, north of Stavanger, and in Thailand. Statoil operates Johan Sverdrup with 40%. Partners are Lundin Norway 22.6%, Petoro 17.36%, Det Norske Oljeselskap 11.6%, and Maersk Oil 8.4%.

Phase 1 of the Johan Sverdrup field development consists of four platforms, and these bridges will connect all the platforms. The two flare towers will be distributed on the processing and riser platforms.

Drilling started in March on the first of a total of 35 wells to be drilled during Phase 1 of the Johan Sverdrup field development offshore Norway in the North Sea, Statoil said (OGJ Online, Mar. 1, 2016).

In 2018, the permanent Johan Sverdrup drilling platform will be installed as the second of four platforms.
