The Petroleo Brasileiro SA-led Libra consortium has encountered its largest oil column thus far in its drilling program on the Libra block in the presalt Santos basin.
The 3-BRSA-1339A-RJS (3-RJS-742A) well, also known as NW2, penetrated 410 m of good quality, 27º gravity oil in reservoirs demonstrating excellent productivity, the Brazilian state-owned firm said.
Located on the northwest portion of the block, well 3-BRSA-1339A-RJS lies 10.3 km south of discovery well 2-ANP-2A-RJS and 180 km offshore Rio de Janeiro. The newly discovered column surpasses that of the 310-m column encountered in March by the 3-BRSA-1322-RJS well (OGJ Online, Mar. 28, 2016).
Drilling of an eighth well, 3-RJS-743a, is under way on the northwest portion of the block.
Petrobras is operator of the Libra consortium with 40% interest. Partners are Royal Dutch Shell PLC 20%, Total SA 20%, and China National Petroleum Corp. and CNOOC Ltd., each with 10%. Contract management is conducted by Pre-Sal Petroleo SA.
