Canada’s National Energy Board is seeking public input until June 27 before deciding whether to extend the sunset clauses for the Northern Gateway Pipeline project (OGJ Online, June 18, 2014).

The sunset clauses say construction must begin before Dec. 31, 2016, or approval for the project will expire.

In a joint letter on May 5, Northern Gateway Pipelines Inc. and Aboriginal Equity Partners asked that the sunset clauses be extended for 3 years until Dec. 31, 2019.

The project includes construction and operation of a crude oil pipeline, a condensate pipeline, and a marine terminal. The pipelines would extend 1,178 km between Bruderheim, Alta., and Kitimat, BC, where the marine terminal would be built.
