Imperial reduces production at Kearl in Alberta

In response to the ongoing fire crisis in Alberta, Imperial Oil Ltd. has reduced production at its Kearl oil sands plant northeast of Fort McMurray. The physical plant is unaffected by the fires.

In response to the ongoing fire crisis in Alberta, Imperial Oil Ltd. has reduced production at its Kearl oil sands plant northeast of Fort McMurray. The physical plant is unaffected by the fires (OGJ Online, May 5, 2016).

The company said the action was taken to “conserve critical supplies as we manage uncertainties associated with inbound and outbound logistics.”

Imperial did not provide a production number.

Workforce levels have been reduced to essential staff only. The company said all Imperial employees and contractors working at Kearl are safe and accounted for (OGJ Online, June 16, 2015).
