Cabinda Gulf Oil Co. Ltd. (Cabgoc), Chevron Corp.’s affiliate in Angola, has elected to cancel its contract with Maersk Drilling for the dynamically positioned semisubmersible Maersk Deliverer ultradeepwater drilling rig.
The contract was slated to end in December, and Maersk Drilling is entitled to receive compensation for the remaining part of the contract. Maersk Drilling says the cancellation will be financially neutral to the company.
“We expect to base the rig in West Africa, and will continue to explore opportunities with our customers in primarily West and East Africa, which remain strategic markets for us,” a Maersk company official said.
Maersk Deliverer has been under contract with Cabgoc since May 2012. The unit was built in 2009 and is designed for year-round operation in areas such as Brazil, the Gulf of Mexico, West and East Africa, and Asia Pacific in up to 3,000 m of water.
