JSC KazMunaiGas Exploration Production (KMG EP) is planning to drill two appraisal wells in the northeastern flank of the S. Nurzhanov field.

The northeastern flank is separated from the main producing field by a fault system of more than 180 m, the company said.

A directional well in 2015 flowed at a rate of 900 b/d of light crude oil on a 7-mm choke from a Triassic reservoir. The appraisal wells will be drilled in 2016-17 to identify new deposits, estimate reserves, and prepare for trial production in 2018.

S. Nurzhanov has been producing since 1963.

Separately, KMG EP said exploration well PR-3 in the Liman block tested the subsalt Permotriassic reservoir and had a natural oil flow rate of 20 b/d. The company plans to drill four exploration wells this year, make a preliminary reserves estimate, and prepare for trial production in 2017-18.

The company also said an exploration well adjacent to the Akkuduk field flowed at a rate of as much as 110 b/d from a deposit in the Middle Jurassic. Two appraisal wells are planned in 2016-17.
