The Indian government is considering incentives for development of high-cost natural gas resources.

In a budget presentation to the lower house of parliament, Union Finance Minister Shri Arun Jaitley said incentives might take the form of “calibrated market freedom.”

A statement said, “As part of our drive towards self-sufficiency, the government is considering to incentivize gas production from deep water, ultradeep water, and high pressure-high temperature areas, which are presently not exploited on account of higher cost and higher risks.”
