PBF Energy Inc., Parsippany, NJ, is running its 190,000-b/sd refinery in Delaware City, Del., at reduced rates following a fire that broke out in the plant’s fluid catalytic cracker (FCC) on Aug. 21.

The fire, which has shuttered the refinery’s FCC, was sparked by flaring that occurred in the wake of a compressor malfunction, PBF Energy said.

The fire has since been extinguished, and no injuries occurred as a result of the incident.

Unaffected units at the refinery continue to operate at reduced rates, the company said.

PBF Energy said it is continuing to monitor and assess the situation to determine the fire’s overall impact to operations.

Further details regarding the extent of damage to the refinery’s 82,000-b/sd FCC unit were not disclosed.
