Origin Energy Ltd., Sydney, and its partners in the BassGas joint venture reported the spudding of the Yolla-5 production well in Yolla gas field in the Bass Strait.

The well was drilled using the three-leg West Telesto jack up rig, which was contracted last year from Seadrill Australia Pte. Ltd. to drill both Yolla-5 and Yolla-6 wells as part of the Yolla Mid Life Enhancement project’s second stage (OGJ Online, Apr. 1, 2014).

The project is designed to extend production from Yolla field through the BassGas production facility at Lang Lang, Victoria. Yolla platform lies about 140 km offshore Kilcunda.

Total measured depth of the Yolla-5 well, Origin said, is expected to reach 3,280 m.

Origin operates the BassGas JV with 42.5% interest. Partners include subsidiaries of AWE Ltd. 35%, Prize Petroleum International Pte. Ltd. 11.25%, and Toyota Tsusho Gas E&P Trefoil Pty. Ltd. 11.25%.
