A seventh US natural gas group joined six others in calling for the White House Council on Environmental Quality to withdraw revised guidance it issued in December for federal agencies considering greenhouse gas emission impacts of their decisions.
The Center for Liquefied Natural Gas called the guidance “a far-reaching and untested policy action of untested legal basis” which would put timely gas infrastructure development at risk by having agencies broaden National Environmental Policy Act reviews to an extent that is unwarranted and inconsistent with NEPA.
“Further, the revised guidance is likely to add administrative confusion and delay to the process of receiving necessary permits, licenses and approvals from federal agencies,” CLNG said in its Mar. 26 comments. “The result is that [it] is unlikely to support, and in fact could run counter to, broad policy objectives (i.e. EPA’s Clean Power Plan).”
Six other associations involved in domestic gas production, transmission, and distribution made similar points in comments they jointly filed as the Natural Gas Council on the same day (OGJ Online, Mar. 26, 2015).
