Alpha Petroleum Resources Ltd., London, said it expects to submit development plans for Cheviot oil field and Blythe gas field in the UK North Sea by September.
At Cheviot, a redevelopment of Emerald field in the northern part of the sea, the privately owned company has increased its estimate of recoverable oil to at least 55 million bbl. It based the estimate on the potential of combining reinjected produced gas and water injection with optimizing well numbers and well lengths.
It envisions developing the field while also developing adjacent Peel oil field in anticipation of later development of adjacent Padon field. Combined reserves potential exceeds 75 million boe, the company said.
The development proposal to the Department of Energy and Climate Change will be based on a floating, production, and offloading facility and designed for future gas exports and tie-back of discoveries on adjacent acreage, Alpha said.
Cheviot is on Blocks 2/10b, 2/15a, and 3/11b.
The company estimates Blythe field reserves at 32 bcf. It said it is working with owners of nearby infrastructure on options for handling Blythe production. The field, operated by Alpha, is on Blocks 48/22 and 48/23a. Alpha and IOG hold 50% interests each.
