The North Reggane consortium has started development drilling at its gas project in the Algerian Sahara.
Development well KL-39 was spudded in late January by KCA Deutag Rig T-211, according to Germany’s RWE Dea AG, which has 19.5% interest in the project.
Twenty-six wells are planned, with startup of gas production scheduled for summer 2017. Production is expected to span more than 25 years.
The North Reggane project includes Reggane, Southeast Azrafil, Kahlouche, South Kahlouche, Tiouliline, and Sali gas fields.
In addition to RWE Dea, North Reggane partners include Algeria’s Sonatrach 40%, Spain’s Repsol 29.25%, and Italy’s Edison 11.25% (OGJ Online, May 19, 2014).
