Sasol Ltd. has let a contract to Technip for furnace engineering and procurement for its proposed integrated ethane cracker and downstream derivatives complex to be built adjacent to the company’s existing operations in Westlake, La. (OGJ Online, Mar. 10, 2014).

Technip will provide engineering and procurement for eight proprietary Ultra Selective Conversion furnaces for the complex, the service provider said.

While Technip confirmed the project will be executed out of its Houston office, the company did not disclose a value of the contract.

Sasol previously awarded Technip a contract to provide its proprietary ethylene technology as well as front-end engineering design for the project (OGJ Online, Oct. 16, 2013).

In addition to a grassroots ethane cracker, which will be capable of producing 1.5 million tonnes/year of ethylene, the $8.1 billion complex will include six chemical manufacturing plants, Sasol said last month (OGJ Online, Oct. 27, 2014).

With site preparation now under way, the new complex currently is on schedule to be commissioned in 2018, Sasol said.
