Petroleos de Venezuela SA's 335,000-b/d Isla refinery on the island of Curacao continues to operate normally following a Nov. 5 fire that struck one of the plant’s gas processing units.
The fire, which injured two workers, occurred during preparations for planned maintenance on the unit’s butane fractionator, PDVSA said.
While an investigation into the cause of the fire still is under way, the refinery continues to maintain normal crude processing levels for the production of gasoline and fuel oil, the state-run company said.
The incident at the Isla refinery took place on the same day as a power outage halted operations at PDVSA’s 645,000-b/d Amuay refinery in Falcon state (OGJ Online, Nov. 5, 2014).
