Coffeyville Resources Refining & Marketing LLC, a subsidiary of CVR Refining LP, Sugar Land, Tex., has let a contract to CB&I, Houston, to build a hydrogen plant at its 115,000-b/d refinery at Coffeyville, Kan.

CB&I will provide engineering, procurement, fabrication, and field construction of a 22 MMcfd hydrogen plant for the supply of high-purity hydrogen to meet the refinery’s hydroprocessing needs, the service provider said.

The plant will use CB&I’s proprietary Hyforming box furnace technology for steam methane reforming, according to Daniel McCarthy, president of CB&I’s technology operating group.

The contract is valued at more than $40 million, CB&I said.

The hydrogen plant will increase the overall plant liquid volume recovery and provide additional hydrogen that is needed for environmental compliance.

The estimated cost of entire Coffeyville hydrogen plant project, which CVR’s board approved in October, is about $122.5 million, CVR said in its latest quarterly earnings report.

The project is scheduled to be completed during second-quarter 2016, according to CVR.
