Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) confirmed the deepwater presence of gas and condensates through log data and cable tests from the 4-BRSA-1265-ESS well in the Espirito Santo basin post-salt.

The well—known by 4-BRSA-1265-ESS to Brazil’s National Petroleum Agency (ANP), 4-GLF-42-ESS to Petrobras, and informally as Lontra—lies 81 km offshore Vitoria in Brazil’s Espirito Santo state, within the Golfinho concession area, in 1,319 m of water.

The reservoirs were identified at 3,055 m in depth and drilling operations ceased at 3,238 m.

Petrobras is operator of the Golfinho production concession with 100% interest. The company in July added a 4-year extension to the lease contract for the Cidade de Vitoria floating production, storage, and offloading vessel in Golfinho field (OGJ Online, July 15, 2014).

The company earlier this month made another gas discovery in the basin with its Tanganika well, 72 km offshore Espirito Santo state (OGJ Online, Oct. 6, 2014).
