Neste Oil Corp. has let a contract to Neste Jacobs Oy of Findland to for engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) for a planned biopropane unit at its 800,000-tonne/year Rotterdam renewable diesel refinery in the Netherlands.

As EPCM contractor, Neste Jacobs will design and implement the biopropane production process for the unit, according to news releases from Neste Oil and Neste Jacobs.

Co-developed by Neste Oil and Neste Jacobs, the production process enables the separation of biopropane from side-stream gases of Neste Oil’s proprietary NExBTL renewable diesel production, the companies said (OGJ Online, Dec. 1, 2006).

First announced in September, the project, valued at more than $77 million, will include a biopropane unit with a production capacity of 30,000-40,000 tpy, as well as associated storage tanks and pipework (OGJ Online, Sept. 10, 2014).

Construction on the project is scheduled to begin immediately, with production and sales of biopropane to start by yearend 2016, Neste Oil said.
