Lundin Petroleum AB has spudded the Kitabu-1 exploration well on Block SB307-308 offshore Sabah, Malaysia.
The Kitabu prospect is a stratigraphic trap that lies 4 km north of the Royal Dutch Shell PLC-operated South Furious 30 oil field, with target reservoirs in onlapping turbidite sandstones of the same Miocene sequence.
Kitabu-1 will be drilled by Seadrill Ltd.’s West Prospero jack up rig to a depth of 2,270 m in 50 m of water over a period of 35 days.
Lundin estimates the Kitabu prospect may contain unrisked, gross prospective resources of 71 million boe.
Lundin Petroleum holds 42.5% interest in the block through subsidiary Lundin Malaysia BV. Partners are EnQuest with 42.5% and Petronas Carigali with 15%.
Lundin Malaysia BV operates seven blocks in Malaysia: PM307, PM308A, PM308B, PM319, PM328, SB303, and SB307-308.
