Eni East Africa SPA has let a front-end engineering and design contract to the KD Consortium, consisting of KBR Inc. and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) Co. Ltd., for a floating LNG (FLNG) plant for its Coral South development project in Rovuma basin offshore Mozambique. This will be the first FLNG vessel in Mozambique.
The FLNG plant will be a turret moored double-hull floating vessel, on which gas receiving, processing, liquefaction, and offloading equipment will be mounted together with LNG and condensate storage.
Rovuma straddles Mozambique’s northern border with Tanzania. Coral South is about 150 miles northeast of Pemba, Mozambique, and 30 miles from the Mozambique coast. Eni is operator of Area 4 deepwater block in Rovuma, which is estimated to hold as much as 85 tcf of gas in place.
The KD consortium will provide the FEED for the topsides, hull, and subsea for the FLNG project. KBR is designing the topsides and turret at its Leatherhead, UK, office while the hull and marine system are being engineered in DSME’s facility in Seoul, South Korea.
The FEED award makes the KD consortium one of three competing for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) contract to build the new FLNG plant for Eni and its partners. Eni will choose only one consortium to take the project to the EPCIC phase. FEED activities started in May. FEED completion is set for end-April 2015, with EPCIC offer submission expected by end-May 2015.
