Saudi Aramco has let an engineering and construction contract in Saudi Arabia to Italy’s Saipem SPA, a unit of Eni SPA.

The transaction includes an EPC contract for expansion of onshore production centers at Khurais, Mazajili, and Abu Jifan fields. Construction of facilities will allow an additional 300,000 b/d to be processed from Khurais field, while the installation of satellite facilities will reinstate production of 200,000 b/d from Abu Jifan and Mazalij fields.

Saipem built the majority of the original Khurais facilities, including the installation of four separation units, all the utilities, the seawater treatment plant, and various seawater pipelines. Khurais field is 127-km long, covers 2,890 sq km, and lies 150 km northeast of Riyadh.

Aramco in 2013 let a contract to Foster Wheeler AG units for front-end engineering design in an expansion at Khurais (OGJ Online, Oct. 21, 2013).
