The Gabon Ministry of Petroleum and Hydrocarbons plans a large marine seismic program aimed at enhancing presalt exploration.

It let a multiclient contract to CGG to acquire 35,000 sq km of broad-band 3D data over available and recently awarded deepwater blocks and 9,900 line-km of 2D data over the country’s ultradeepwater area (OGJ Online, Aug. 11, 2014).

In an initial program phase expected to last 7 months, the contractor will start acquiring almost 24,000 sq km of 3D data in the fourth quarter of 2014. It will perform depth imaging of the data in the UK.

CGG Chief Executive Officer Jean-Georges Malcor said low-frequency enhancement available from the broad-band data will improve imaging of presalt prospects.
