Aqaba Development Corp. contractor BAM International BV has begun work on the jetty for Jordan’s planned floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) project at Aqaba, at the top of the Gulf of Aqaba. ADC expects work on the jetty to be complete in April 2015.
Jetty work includes a 100-m trestle on steel piles, a 20 by 20-m concrete offloading platform, four mooring dolphins, and two breasting dolphins.
Additional work to be completed by BAM includes a 700-m gas pipeline to the shore tie-in point, with associated control equipment and instrumentation and development of the terminal area, including roads and two buildings. Substructure works for the terminal building are nearing completion. Substructure works for the administration building have begun.
ADC last year issued a tender for these works, while Jordan’s Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources selected Golar LNG Ltd. to supply the project’s FSRU. The terminal’s initial sendout capacity will be 150 MMcfd. The vessel will have 160,000 cu m of storage and an ultimate sendout of 490 MMcfd. MEMR had initially planned the terminal to begin operations late this year (OGJ Online, Apr. 8, 2013).
