Petrobras begins FPSO transport to Lula field

A consortium comprised of Schahin Group and Modec Inc., contracted by Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras), has begun transporting the newly built Cidade de Mangaratiba floating production, storage, and offloading vessel from the BrasFels shipyard in Angra dos Reis, Brazil, to the Iracema South area of Lula field in the presalt layer of the Santos basin.

The vessel will be anchored 240 km offshore in 2,200 m of water, where it will be connected to 8 production and 8 injection wells. It has the capacity to produce 150,000 b/d of oil, compress 8 million cu m/day of natural gas, store 1.6 million bbl of oil, and inject 240,000 b/d of water.

Petrobras in 2012 hooked up the RJS-647 presalt well to the Cidada de Sao Vicente FPSO for a 6-month test in Iracema (OGJ Online, Mar. 5, 2012).

The company expects oil production from the Cidade de Mangaratiba to begin in the fourth quarter. Petrobras last year reported plans to increase net production from its offshore presalt formation in the Campos and Santos to more than 2 million b/d of oil by 2020 (OGJ Online, May 7, 2013).

The Iracema South area is part of the BM-S-11 concession operated by Petrobras with 65% interest. Partners are BG E&P Brasil Ltda. 25% and Petrogal Brasil SA 10%.
