Petroleos de Venezuela SA (PDVSA) has shut down the power generation system that supplies its 190,000-b/d Puerto La Cruz refinery in eastern Venezuela for 30 days of major maintenance, the state-owned company said.
The preventative maintenance work on Turbogenerator No. 6 (TG-6) is intended to optimize electrical power generation within the Puerto La Cruz refinery, PDVSA said.
Upon its return to service, the 15-Mw TG-6, working with two additional turbogenerators, will cover the entirety electricity demand at Puerto La Cruz, the company said.
No details were disclosed as to whether the generator’s shuttering would impact production levels at the refinery.
PDVSA recently began construction activities at Puerto La Cruz for a long-planned expansion and modernization project that will include the remodeling of existing installations and equipment at the refinery as well as some construction to improve the yield of higher-quality products from a heavier slate of crude oil feedstocks (OGJ Online, July 21, 2014).
