Alberta Energy Regulator reports that BlackPearl Resources Inc., Calgary, has filed an Oil Sands Conservation Act application for the Blackrod commercial steam-assisted gravity drainage project (OGJ Online, June 5, 2012).

AER is reviewing the application along with an environmental protection and enhancement application.

The project, about 50 km northwest of the hamlet of Wandering River in northern Alberta, would have a maximum bitumen production capacity of 80,000 b/d from the Lower Grand Rapids deposit and would be developed over three phases, AER said.

Blackrod would include horizontal SAGD well pairs from 69 surface pads, a central processing facility, and associated pumping stations, pipelines, and other systems.
