Fire hits at Pemex’s Ciudad Madero refinery

The cause of an overnight fire on July 23 at Petroleos Mexicanos’s (Pemex) 190,000-b/d Francisco I. Madero refinery in Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, has yet to be determined, Mexico’s state-owned oil company said.

The fire, which occurred in a gasoline storage tank at the refinery, has left a total of nine workers injured, according to a series of Twitter postings from Pemex on July 23.

Pemex implemented the refinery’s internal emergency response plan following discovery of the fire, which was controlled and extinguished with support from local emergency agencies, the company said.

The status of current operations at the refinery remains unavailable.
