Kazakhstan approves extension to Tethys’ Kyzyloi contract

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Oil & Gas has approved a 15-year extension to the Kyzyloi gas production contract belonging to Tethys Petroleum Ltd.

Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Oil & Gas has approved a 15-year extension to the Kyzyloi gas production contract belonging to Tethys Petroleum Ltd.

The company is currently producing gas in the shallow Kyzyloi sandstone in the 287-sq-km contract area in Kazakhstan northwest of the Aral Sea. Tethys plans to continue producing from the area as the contract continues.

Kyzyloi, discovered in 1967, started production in 2007 (OGJ Online, Dec. 27, 2007). As of Dec. 31, 2013, the field’s proved reserves total 2.9 billion cu ft with 8 wells producing.
