Neste Oil Corp. has let a contract to Metso Corp. for automation and flow control technology to improve operations at the sulfur plant of its 205,000-b/d Porvoo, Finland, refinery.
Metso’s delivery includes a Metso DNA plant automation system, a safety system, an information management system, operator work stations, and links to Neste Oil’s existing systems, as well as automated on-off and emergency shutdown (ESD) valves.
Metso also will provide project engineering, installation, commissioning, and training.
The automation and flow control technology replacement at the sulfur plant is intended to help minimize sulfur emissions from the Porvoo refinery, said Ari Aitolahti, automation development manager for Neste Oil.
The equipment is scheduled for delivery to and implementation at the plant in 2015, according to Metso.
A value of the contract was not disclosed.
Neste Oil previously let a service contract to Metso Corp. for technology to convert gasoline fractions into high-octane gasoline at an isomerization unit unit under construction at the Porvoo refinery, which is scheduled to be commissioned in spring 2015 (OGJ Online, Feb. 25, 2014).
