AER: Bitumen, crude oil production up in 2013

Alberta’s bitumen production increased 8% in 2013 while crude oil production increased 5%, according to an annual report from Alberta Energy Regulator.

Alberta’s bitumen production increased 8% in 2013 while crude oil production increased 5%, according to an annual report from Alberta Energy Regulator.

The province’s total oil production in 2013 was 974 million bbl. Raw crude bitumen from oil sands accounted for 761 million bbl and crude oil, 213 million bbl.

Alberta’s remaining established crude bitumen and crude oil reserves totaled 169 billion bbl, consisting of 167.2 billion bbl of crude bitumen and 1.8 billion bbl of crude oil.

Since 1967, Alberta has produced about 9.63 billion bbl of raw crude bitumen from oil sands. Since 1914, Alberta has produced about 16.9 billion bbl of crude oil, AER said.
